See all Hallelujahs
Catalogs sent in from the mail, commercials of the latest car, the new advancement with the cellphone or the hottest toy for some girl or boy are what are displayed before us every year. And, like the brainwashed humans we are, we go out and purchase these items and before the New Year arrives we complain because we find out that what we thought was new and improve is not much different at all. Then we repeat the same behavior again during the next year. When are we going to ever learn that it is not our birthday? It is Jesus’ birthday and yet, still he never gets anything. We overlook him but he never overlooks us. He supplies all of our needs and he even throws in a few of our wants.
Think about it, the greatest gift that was ever given to mankind was and is Jesus Christ. God gave his only begotten son so that we might have eternal life. So, why are we so selfish, why are we filled with so much greed during Christmas? It is nothing but Satan. He wants us to forget where our blessings come from and he wants us to go out and buy that new car instead of paying our tithes. He knows just how to entice us, but we have the control. Of course, the commercials will play and the catalogs will come but we have a choice of whether or not to purchase these items and we make the choice of whether or not to talk to our children about the real meaning for the season.
I told my god-children that this Christmas they were going to pick out a toy for another child to give to them this holiday because they need to learn that it is about giving to others instead of them always receiving. I told them that Jesus was born on this day and he is the reason we celebrate each year. They are young but we, as parents must teach our children at a young age so that they will not become brainwashed by television ads. We have let the television and the radio raise our children long enough. It’s time for us to pick up the slack.
Education is the key to ignorance. Stop rushing out to the malls to buy everything, stop and read to your children. Spend quality time and let’s remember that it is not our birthday.
