ATTITUDE MATTERS

“My Sister,

I would like to wish you a Happy Holiday this year, this season. 2007 is almost expired and a new year is on the horizon. You know 2008; I think, is going to be a great year. The number eight means “new beginnings”. Oh, I wonder what new things He has in store for us, his daughters!

I just wanted to encourage you, I am a writer and I love expressing myself and the joy of Jesus through writing. You never know how much a warm smile and a hug can do for a person. Your greeting made a difference in my life today, thank you for that.

I hope you receive all that’s in your heart this year and prepare yourself for the new things of the next.

Bless you,

Love,

Victoria”

The above letter was given to me by a young lady in church on a recent Sunday as she made her exit. After a week in the community loins den of fury drivers, restless co-workers, family demands and anxious crowds at the gym, I found myself in need of an attitude adjustment. A few bumps and pot holes in life’s fast lane was leading me to an undesirable detour. After a self assessment and refocusing, I had to get back on track. This for me meant spending the start of each day in prayer, meditation and affirmations. With some minor corrections and a tune-up, I was back on course to my destiny, because attitude matters when associating with people.

The holiday season brings many activities, varying schedules and financial challenges, which all can be stressful without a healthy balance. Remember, Jesus is the reason for the season, let us embrace the breath of life and seek all that is good. The bible says “keep your heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life” (Proverbs 4:23).

These are some suggestions for getting through the holidays.

Practice: Watch your thoughts, for they become words. Choose your words, for they could become your actions.

Stress less: Identify what things you can control and those beyond your control are just that, beyond your control.

Enjoy the present day: Be mindful daily of the present moment, slow down and breathe, find something to enjoy and be thankful for this holiday season.

Attitude Matters – you can’t change your past but you can change your future, one day at a time.
