KEEPING THINGS IN PERSPECTIVE

The start of a New Year and we are anxious and excited, apprehensive, yet resolute about what we are going to do in this New Year. So as January turn in to June and June into December we must keep all people, places, things and situations in their proper perspective. Therefore, “Whatever you do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men.”

Colossians NKJK`

Let’s take a quick review of the meaning of perspective. Actually I was a bit surprised when I opened Webster. The meaning that I knew –the one I thought would be listed number one-was number three. The first two meanings I was not aware of.  Perhaps my liberal arts education can explain my ineptness.

Perspective: noun.

1. a technique of depicting spatial relationships on a flat surface.

2. the manner in which objects appear to the eye in respect to their relative positions and distance,

3. the ability to see all the relevant data in a meaningful relationship,

4.* a mental view or prospect.

Retaining and embracing meanings 3 and 4 will keep us sane, calm and on focus. You might think or say that the preceding statement is somewhat over-the-top or even absurd. Well, all I am saying is this: Our ability to understand what is truly relevant, coupled with the mental viewpoint needed to stay in balance is a prerequisite to spiritual maturity.

Our perspective is determined by our view of the matter and assessment of the situation.

In all matters of life and day to day living let us vow to maintain proper perspective. And let God pump you up, acknowledging;

“God is my strength and my power, and He makes my way perfect.”
2 Samuel 22:33
