MENSWEAR WITH A FLAIR,
ONE MAN’S DETERMINATION TO OPEN NEW STORE
By Tiffany Jackson

For 47 years, Henry Breckenridge has been in the business of fashion, he contributes his longevity in the business for his love for watching his creations come to life. Today, the man who started out working in a fabric store right after high school is now ready to embark on a new endeavor and that is with the grand-opening of his men’s clothing boutique, Breckenridge Fashions.

Located at 428 North Main in Duncanville, Texas, customers will find menswear at its best. Fit for the man who is versatile in what he wears, Breckenridge displays clothing that caters to the dressy but classy man, the more casual man and the urban wear man. Inside of the boutique is an array of accessories including shoes, socks, ties, belts, hats, caps and much more.  But what makes the store stand out the most is the fact that much of what you see is custom made. As you look closely to the labels inside of the clothes you will see in embroidery the word B.A.D. (Black American Designs.) It has taken Breckenridge a long time but he is ready to conquer the world of menswear.

His experience comes from his many years of designing clothing for women.

“I make what I feel the black man will be comfortable wearing and what I make is definitely one of a kind,”

"I enjoyed making clothes for women; I started making clothes for many stores early on but when I saw that the women were looking good, I noticed that I had nothing to wear," said Breckenridge as he talks about why he started making menswear.

He also adds that he did not think that European men who design most of the suits should tell black men what to wear, so now he is his best model.

“I make what I feel the black man will be comfortable wearing and what I make is definitely one of a kind,” said Breckenridge.

Although the store has just opened, Breckenridge is already looking at something long-term and successful. He is content with maintaining his own business.

“I have worked very hard and I have learned from many of the best, so I see this company as one that will provide the best service to my customers and one that will eventually become my main sense of income,” said Breckenridge. “I also look forward to hiring many employees to run the business while I just sit back.”
