The 2008 Gospel Explosion was held on Friday January 26, at Friendship West Baptist Church. The program was presented by New Next Generation. An organization founded by Ms. Rosie McGee in 1994 that allows youth to obtain entrepreneurial skills.
“Through the organization the children develop strong guidance and leadership skills”, said McGee.
The skills obtained through the organization were definitely evident on that night. The youth showcased the event as a fundraiser, which contained an all-star roster of local talent and well-known national recording artists. The local talent included Timothy Gardner and the Travails, CeCe Godbolt, Ronny Miles, and Dana Hemphill. The celebrity artist included Doug and Melvin Williams of the Williams Brothers and Bishop Walter Hawkins. The crowd was pleased as they waved their hands, danced, shouted, and sang along as their favorite songs were performed. Host Antonio Johnson of Heaven 97 KHVN added humor as he kept the crowd entertained between each performance. Hats off to Ms. McGee and her future entrepreneurs for a successful event!
Local Artist
As the night progressed DallasGospelConnection.com was able to engage with the local artist on their inspirations and goals for that night.
Success is nurtured by inspiration, and we are all inspired by someone in our lives. For Timothy Gardner it was his “Big Momma” and the sway in her hips as she sang in East Texas. For soloist CeCe Godbolt it was her father and for the man with the powerful voice, Ronny Miles it was his immediate family whom he has a close bond with. With their various inspirations, each artist had their own sense of style whether it was traditional, old school with a twist of new school flavor, or a contemporary sound. Although very different, each of the artists confessed a common goal; the goal they all shared was accomplished through God’s presence that dwelled in the place. For Timothy Gardner he wanted to deliver the message God had given him, heal hearts, and re-introduce “The Family” (mother-Ophelia /sister-Sharhonda) to the metroplex. For CeCe Godbolt it was to share her passion of singing with others by ministering through song, and send a message of encouragement. Ronny Miles, who refers to himself first as a teacher, wanted to minister through song to those who may have just been through some of the same trials he endured in life. It was like being at church on Sunday morning.
One sweet melody was combined by the artists and that was uplifting the name of Jesus Christ!
