Over 17,000 Barack Obama supporters gathered on last week in Dallas at the Reunion Arena. Large crowds swarmed the area like ants in a colony while young faces remained the most dominant. Loud cries, flashes and Obama t-shirts proved that the love for the Illinois senator was definitely here in Texas.

Currently, Barack Obama is leading in the primaries but he is depending on Texas to show up at the polls.

"What we do in the next couple of weeks will allow us to change the world," said former Dallas Mayor Ron Kirk during the rally.

Those gathered at the Reunion stood there chanting, “We want Change” and held up signs that read, “Hope.” And although the crowd consisted of mainly African Americans-- Caucasians, Asians, Latinos among other races were there in support.

“My grandmother and I are the only Democrats in our family so you can imagine how our family gatherings are,” said Dennis Leslie. “I am voting for Obama because I want this country to change for the better and I feel deep inside that he has that power plus Hillary Clinton seems like she is quick to make enemies and we definitely do not need that type of person in the White House.”

College student, Chelsea Rodgers also shared her sentiments on Obama. “Senator Barack Obama is here to help college students by lower the tuition so more people can go to college and he also wants to give us money to help towards our classes,” she said. “He definitely has my vote and I am here today even though I had a test because I want to see change.”

Other supporters included former Dallas running back, Emmitt Smith and radio personalities Tom Joyner and Ricky Smiley.

Obama appears to be taken the world by storm. He has moved veteran campaign operatives from other states such as Iowa, South Carolina, Georgia, Alabama and California to help mobilize Texas. Many are concentrated in Dallas and Houston.

While visiting Dallas, Obama talked about several plans that he has to ensure that the lower and middle class families are helped as well as the youth but he said that it takes the people to make this change happen.

“Ordinary people can do extraordinary things to bring about a change,” Obama said during the rally. “If we can just come together, the rich and the poor, the black and the white. I am prepared to chart a new course but I can’t do it be myself. Change starts from the bottom up.”

Obama plans to give working families a tax break and raise taxes on the wealthiest Americans if elected president. The candidate's tax plan would cut taxes for citizens making $75,000 or less.

For college students Obama proposes lowering tuition and launching programs for the youth to repay their education debts by getting involved in community service. Obama also talked about ending the war and bringing our soldiers home, giving veterans their benefits, helping schools that are under funded, restoring diplomacy, provide trade agreements and safety agreements for workers, extend the congressional health plan and instituting carbon emissions limits.

“You need a president that is going to say what he is going to do and be able to deliver,” said Obama.
