Forget about what happened in 2007, a new year is here and this is a new season. Friday at the Golden Gate Baptist Church, hundreds gathered for a night of jubilee with Minister Kevin Hobson, the Worship Ministry Coordinator/Minister of Music; the Golden Gate Mass Choir; the Golden Gate Youth and Children’s Choir; the great gospel songstress – Karen Clark Sheard and her daughter the lovely Kierra “KiKi Sheard. Through song they all proved that it is time for a new beginning.
“As Believers, we have experienced hurt, disappointment and brokenness in our lives but be encouraged because God is healing the land,” proclaimed Minister Kevin Hobson before singing. “No matter what you have gone through, it is your season.”
Elder Kervy Brown of Full Gospel Holy Temple wowed the crowd by jumping off the stage to sing with so much power and so much might down the aisles. He also let everyone know that it was his or her season as he sung Donald Lawrence ‘Seasons.’ And yes, Kayla Brown also blew the crowd away with her powerhouse of a voice. Then Minister Hobson came back to sing Marvin Sapp’s ‘Never Would Have Made It’ and there was not a dry eye in the audience. Not only did he nail it, he owned it. The concert was truly a night of true worship and laughter.
KHVN Heaven 97’s Carmina Barnett was an awesome host as she and comedienne; Sister Cantaloupe (Trina Jeffrie) entertained the crowd. Carmina asked for five volunteers to come on stage, of course they did not know what she had in store for them to do. Surprisingly enough, she told the eager participants that they were a part of the Apollo/Idol Night at Golden Gate; therefore they had to sing. Let’s just say out of the five participants only one could sing and it was so much fun to watch.
The Golden Gate Steppers were one of the highlights of the show as the sharp young boys dressed in black suits and gold ties stomped their way into the audience heart. The boys ranged from all ages and they moved as one.
The night ended on a high note. KiKi Sheard came onto the stage hyped in the Lord. She sung but most importantly she ministered.
“How many of you believe and know that the enemy is out here to kill, steal and destroy but how many know that praise is what you can use as your weapon,” asked the gospel princess. “Give God the praise because He is awesome. I am so glad that God redeemed me, that He sat me free and I will serve the Lord at all times.”
She continued. “Many of us should have been dead and gone but God delivered us, some of us shouldn’t be working the jobs we are working because we don’t have a degree but God worked it out for us; God will make a way out of no way,” she concluded.
After KiKi’s deliverance, she called her mother on stage and the duo conjured up a Holy Ghost party. Karen Clark Sheard sung then she had KiKi to repeat after her. The mother/daughter team was great to see and hear for a spirit filled night.
Golden Gate’s pastor, Minister Vincent T. Parker made sure that no one left the facility without knowing what God could do for them. He opened up the doors of the church and spoke into the souls of those attending.
“Jesus died and they buried him because that is what they do with the dead, you never go to the cemetery and see someone’s head sticking up but the beautiful part about it was that sometime during midnight, God resurrected His son; now some of you might be saying what does that have to do with me, that has everything to do with you,” he confessed. “Jesus died on the cross in our place so that we could live. Now you have heard this story before but that is because it is the gospel and the gospel never changes.”
Pastor Vincent also talked about the importance of developing a relationship with God. “When you have a relationship with God no matter what you are going through you feel good, if things are not right you will know that you can look up to the sky and talk to the Lord,” he continued.
The concert was not just a concert but a praise and worship service. Someone was touched and encouraged. This concert is one of many that will be a part of a series of events and programs designed to focus on the encouragement, empowerment and spiritual development of residents in South Dallas under the commitment from City Councilwoman, Carolyn Davis of District 7.
