An article issued by ANI, claims that Democratic Party presidential nominee Senator Barack Obama is losing the support of some black pastors who believe that black Christians are voting for him on emotional grounds, instead of his stand on issues affecting American life.
Ben Kinchlow, a former co-host for the Christian Broadcasting Network and author of the new book, “Black Yellowdog,” said many black church-goers unthinkingly support the Democratic Party.
"Many black Christians voting for Obama are doing so for emotional reasons and not because they've studied the issues,” he contested. “They think Barack Obama is the shining city on the hill; that now is the chance to move into the 21st century without regarding what the real issues are," the Washington Times quoted Kinchlow, as saying.
The article says that Bishop Gilbert Coleman, pastor of the 1,000 – member Freedom Christian Fellowship in Philadelphia, said black believers are not knowledgeable about Obama’s beliefs. He says there are a lot of things Obama is saying that are “uncomfortable” to Christian evangelicals.
All the pastors interviewed said they are hammering home to their congregations the consequences of their votes.
Once more of the ministers speak to their congregation, more people in the community will begin to understand the importance of their own beliefs and to stick to the issues at hand. The thought of an African American president is great but not if that person is not trying to make a difference for America. Obama has a lot to say but just like the Bible says, “Study thyself approve” then that is exactly what people have to do with Obama and McCain. Candidates should be chosen by their belief and plans for bringing about change, helping to make life a better place and for protecting the children.
