Legendary quartet The Soul Stirrers continues their music ministry with a new recording of timeless classics titled “A Soul Stirring Reunion.” The CD has messages of deliverance, celebration and rejoicing. The new album hit stores on September 23rd.
The first single from the album is “The Love of God.” It features lead vocals from Floyd Taylor, son of the late Johnnie Taylor, and a member of The Soul Stirrers from 1957 until 1961.
Also on the “A Soul Stirring Reunion” is “Be With Me Jesus,” “Nearer to Thee,” “Wade in the Water,” and “Lord Remember Me,” all staples in The Soul Stirrers vast repertoire. Other highlights include “Oh What a Meeting,” “Restin;’ Easy,” and two songs originally arranged by Sam Cooke, “Stand by Me Father” and “The Last Mile of the Way.”
Hear the heart-felt rendition by Rev. Luther Gamble of the memorable, “Peace Be Still.” Johnnie Taylor was featured on the original of “When the Gates Swing Open,” and is revived on the new CD with a blues flavor rendition by Eddie Huffman.
“A Soul Stirring Reunion” will also feature longtime member LeRoy Crume, he joined the quartet in 1955; brother Arthur, who began playing guitar with the group in 1965; Eddie Huffman, a Soul Stirrer since 1973; Willie Rogers, a member since 1965, and Rev. Luther Gamble, who joined in 1974.
This album is one that you cannot put down. It will have you clapping your hands and stopping your feet. It puts the old school flavor of gospel music back on the scene. Let’s not forget that it features some of the best of the best of singers in the history of music as a whole.
