Black History Month Events

Through April 6
The African American Museum presents "With an Even Hand: Brown v. Board at Fifty," a Library of Congress exhibit examining the struggle for civil rights and an end to racial segregation in schools. The display includes documents, photographs, manuscripts and political cartoons through April 6. Located at 3536 Grand Ave., in Fair Park. Month of February
The J. Erik Jonsson Central Library presents a film series, an author showcase and a play for the month of February, located at 1515 Young Street. Call 214-670-1400.

February 9 and 23
Film series:
It runs Saturdays from 2 to 4 p.m. and includes films from the "Tyler, Texas, Black Film Collection" (February 9 and 23) and Thelonius Monk: Straight, No Chaser (February 16). Performance Space, fourth floor.

February 23
Author showcase:
Local and regional African-American authors will lead a panel discussion, moderated by Vivi Monroe Congress. February 23 from 2 to 4 p.m. Studio, third floor.

February 26
Play:
The Men of Valor from Concord Missionary Baptist Church will perform Struggles of the Black Man From Slavery to Freedom. February 26 at 7 p.m. Bradshaw Gallery, fourth floor. 

February 10
The Carrollton Public Library will present a read-in at 5:30 p.m. February 10 at the Josey Ranch Lake Library at 1700 Keller Springs Road. The event is free. Call 972-466-4800.

February 16
The Martin Luther King Jr. Branch Library presents the African-American Read-In aimed to inspire children and their families to use literature to brighten their world and to make literacy a part of Black History Month. The theme of the event is "Kings and Queens of Africa," and visitors are encouraged to wear a king or queen outfit and participate in a costume contest on February 16 from 1 to 3 p.m. Library located at 2922 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. Call 214-670-0344.

February 23
The Fort Worth Public Library will present the photography exhibit "The Shutter and the View," displaying the work of Wendell Earl Gorden and Carl N. Sidle. March 2
