“I’m not where I’m going to be; I’m always becoming!” What a powerful statement from such an inspirational woman, Ms. Ruby Dee.
Situations in life keep us so focused on our destination that we forget we are on a journey. Not only are we on a journey, but we forget to enjoy the journey. Every experience and circumstance will not be for our enjoyment, but you can guarantee it is for our good. You may not have the house on the hill, or the bank account to support your current lifestyle, but don’t give up, you are becoming. School may be a struggle and family life a mess; just know that you are becoming. I’m not where I’m going to be, but I’m always becoming!
Many times in life we will make this statement; maybe until the day we die. And I’m okay with that because I’d rather change and renew my mind than stay the same and have the same results. I want to always evolve. I don’t want to have the same thoughts I had 10 years ago, the same reactions to certain situations as I had 5 years ago. Things change and I must change as well. If you have children, you notice at a certain age that they should be able to do certain things. The same goes for us. At each stage of our life, we should have developed new skills, new knowledge, new outlooks, and a new perspective.
Don’t get discouraged because of where you are now. You are being shaped to be able to handle where you are going. Sit back and enjoy this stage of your life. Easier said the done, right? I know, but the peace of mind you will have is worth giving it a shot. Tap into whatever you are supposed to be grasping now so you can move on to the next level. When a struggle arise remember, “I’m not where I’m going to be; I’m always becoming.” There is nothing to be upset or frustrated about; it’s all a part of the plan. You have to go through this to get to that.
Whatever struggle you are going through now is for the making of who you will become. You are not there yet, but you’re not far from it. Stay the course and know that even though you are not where you are going to be in life, what you are doing now will benefit you in who you are becoming.
In Love,
Tanisha
