Respect - the most misused form of expression. Why do I call it an expression? Because I believe it is something that one displays to another or an action that is seen.
I recently had to check my respect level; something that I didn’t think I had a problem with because my motto is if you give it to me then I will give it back to you. But I learned that respect can be shown in more ways than one.
Has someone or something grown old or stale that you feel if you do this small thing, it won’t matter? You are not respecting that person or thing. Do you take an inch or two here and there if you think no one is watching? You are not respecting. Are you sure your actions are reflecting the words coming out of your mouth? You may want to check your respect level.
Many times we feel because we don’t behave disorderly with the elderly or use foul language in the presence of a woman that we are walking in respect, but what if your wife felt disrespected when you didn’t greet her as she thought you should? What if your husband felt disrespected when you didn’t defend him to your family? What if your job felt disrespected if you took longer than normal breaks or called in whenever you wanted?
There are many scenarios I can use but only you know what fits your life. Look at the situations around you that seem to be in turmoil. The respect level may have gone down. It’s nothing to get depressed over because we all make mistakes. Just check yourself and get back on the right road.
R.E.S.P.E.C.T. we all want it, but are you passing it along too?
In Love,
Tanisha
