A New Decade to Reinvent Yourself: Part 3
By Tarsha Polk
In this 3-part series, I’ve been sharing how to move from the now YOU into your new YOU by reinventing yourself into a new S.H.A.P.E.; an acronym for Specialness, Heart, Attitude, Potential, and Experience. Today I share with you the “E” in shape and that’s Experience. But first, here’s a recap of what you’ve missed. When you reinvent yourself around your Specialness, you are taking a close look at what makes you unique. You can reinvent yourself around your Heart’s passion because it motivates you to do something great. When you adjust your Attitude to a mindset of success you open the door for unlimited possibilities to reinvent yourself. And, don’t overlook your greatest Potential. You can reinvent yourself around what makes you the best you.
The last area of reinvention is E for Experience. To be a successful person, it is best to find opportunities that put your best skills to use. Regardless of what you do, you must demonstrate your expertise in that given field. Here’s an example of how to reinvent yourself based on your expertise. My client, who owns Heart Tones, LLC had a near death experience. She used her experience to develop an advanced care planning booklet to provide families with a road map to make end of life healthcare decisions. What started out as a passion project based on life experience propelled her into a new role as a sought-after thought leader in the field of Advance Care Planning. For small business owners and those looking to develop their personal brands, increasing your brand authority as an expert is a necessary first step towards brand reinvention. What my client did was reinvent herself as a thought leader in her field. Being a thought leader is all about establishing yourself as someone worth paying attention to. It is a method of marketing yourself as an expert or authority in your industry.
Make a list of all the things you do well, list the industries you are the authority in and why. Then evaluate your list to determine how you can reinvent yourself based on skills or expertise you haven’t tapped into yet.
After the personal and professional trials and tribulations I experienced in 2018, I followed my Heart’s passion for entrepreneurship and made a career transition. In addition to coaching small business owners on marketing strategies, I manage a women’s business center to help women become successful entrepreneurs.
Reinvention can come in many ways, whether it’s making a transition, changing directions or starting all over, you should consider your Specialness, Heart, Attitude, Potential, and Experience (S.H.A.P.E.) and share it with the world. Address your weaknesses and bad habits. To truly reinvent yourself, you must minimize the unhealthy attributes that could jeopardize you from reaching your destiny S.H.A.P.E.
