As the Holiday season fast and furiously approaches, many of us are thinking about our to do lists, groceries we have to buy, presents we have to find, family we have to spend time with and the traveling that we have to do. For others, this is a time of sadness as you may be longing to be in a relationship or maybe your finances are not where you would like them to be; or you might be in a situation where you might be spending the upcoming Holidays alone. In this journey called life, we are all in different seasons at different times, that’s why it’s a journey.

Wherever you find yourself this time of year, I pray that you take a moment to look at all the blessings that surround you every day.  No matter what situation you are in, good, bad, or ugly, there is always something to be grateful for. Having a car that gets you to work every day, having clean clothes, a roof over your head, running water, food to feed your family, etc. Sometimes, I just walk outside and take in a deep breath and thank God that I have the capacity to inhale and exhale.

Luke Chapter 17 :11-19 tells the story of ten lepers that asked Jesus to have pity on them. Jesus told them to go and show themselves to the priests and as they went, they were cleansed. The story goes on to say that all ten were healed, but only one came back with praise and gratitude falling at his feet. Jesus asked where were the other nine and why didn’t they come back to give praise to God? Jesus tells the leper to go about his way and that his faith had made him whole. Because he came back to give thanks, not only was he cleansed, but he was fully restored in all areas of his life. Whole means nothing missing and nothing broken.

If at this point in your life you are not where you want to be, began to just thank God for where you are and what you have. Then sit down and decide what is it that you actually want in life. If you don’t know where you want to go, then how will you know when you arrive?  I make a daily practice of being grateful for where I am now, the things that I have now and where I am going. I have started my children to practice this as well so that they can take into inventory that although they might not have everything that they want, they do have things that they can be grateful for and they have become more appreciative for what they do have.

Every day, take five or ten minutes to write down eight or ten items that you are grateful for. It could be just as simple that you were on time to work or that you left early enough to see a sunrise. I promise you, if you put this practice into place, your life will change in unexpected ways. The attitude of gratitude changes circumstances. You can thank your way into a new life.

Remember, you can’t change the past, you are to enjoy the present and look forward to the future.
